Walls of Shoreditch recognises the importance of capturing this rapidly changing urban environment and its fleeting narratives before they are lost. It constructs a visual identity of Shoreditch through 88,000+ archived wall objects from Google Street View over the past decade, retrived by a computer vision model. Thus, there were several discussions regarding what and how to categorise the elements of a wall. This was the starting point of my criteria and curatorial voice, that started shaping the data within three overarching categories. For each element, I established which type of data I would delve into in detail, such as location, timestamp, dimensions, and any relevant contextual information. AudienceWho is this project for? The two of us talk about his shop and how he got it up and running. I wanted to make it personal, asking him about his past and this helped me build a closer relationship with him. The camera movements are unstable and chaotic, as is the area and surroundings of the shop, people coming and going, and so on. I left a selection of CDs for the audience to interact with and change as they pleased. To achieve this, I incorporated the iconic “Manina” (little hand), a symbol that I found out to be the most representative of Italian identity. The logo was also designed to be clear, elegant, and exude a modern/urban aesthetic. To accomplish this, I carefully selected the colour scheme, using green as the primary colour, white as the secondary, and black as the tertiary, in order to create the best visual composition that would appeal to the eye. Promo To validate the effectiveness of the new visual identity, I tested it on the society’s existing Instagram page, which is used as main platform to communicate with its audience. This allowed me to assess its performance and make any necessary adjustments. After determining that the identity was working, I created a promo video to unveil the re-branding of the society. The video was intended to be used for promoting the first event, made with Adobe After Effects, it had meme references to Italy to attact the audience on Instagram. &nbsp; ReferencesFocusing on Italian themes of belonging and place. I used references such as the photographs of Toni Brugnoli, a 1990-class street photographer from the suburbs of Milan, who captured images of Italian most personal and cultural celebrations, like the 2020 European championship win and Inter’s Scudetto win. I also looked into the materials as hooligans football scarves, at flag archive fashion garments like Comme des Garcons. I also looked at nostalgic elements like postcards from the 1980s, and references to the visual identity of a famous Milanese fast food restaurant, Burghy. This symbol has been used throughout history to represent Italy and its culture, it was also part of the old society’s logo, which I am the current president of, since it was re-branded in conjunction with this project. In order to select the right representation of the hand gesture, I examined different styles, both in the form of illustrations and emojis. Determining the appropriate size for the flag was an important task that I had to carry out. I then researched to determine what was the typical size for a flag of the characteristics I had in mind, it had to be possible to wear (as in the shown reference). One of the most challenging aspects of this project was selecting the right colour. I initially experimented with different colours such as: magenta, light blue, red, yellow, and green. The label had to celebate Central Saint Martins and it’s students, but the brief was reserved just for Graphics students. Therefore I wanted to give the chance to every student to be part of the project.The idea came from merging the brief of this project onto another which involved the creation of a lensless video with an Equivalence as subject. As the final label could be printed on a special type of material, I wanted to leave the label with all the designs drawn on in black and white, so that everyone could personalise the label to their liking, including a space that I left for them to put their name on, so that they would have a souvenir to take home, as this label will also be used for the Graduate Show, an event that attracts a lot of people from outside the university. Making of / Wheel of Fortune To attract people during the workshop, I created a wheel of fortune where one could win a free beer. However, despite this, I was very pleased with what I was able to achieve in just one day of the workshop. There were a large number of pens, pencils, and other coloured materials on the table. The client asked every artist a letter that came along the heart. The Letter This heart is composed of two principal elements, the continuous line and the intertwined colours. The first element, the continuous line, represents a continuous love, that begins at one point and ends at another. Human beings aren’t immortal, therefore, the love that a human being can feel is limited, but with the possibility of being continuous without ever ceasing. Let us move on to the next element, the colours; interwoven colours and all different. All different as no love is the same, each human being perceives it in its own way and besides, we are all different, with different kinds of love. Intertwined because it is in chaos, we find madness; if there is no madness, there is no love. They were an Italian rock band formed in 1982 that made “Emilian Melodic pro-Soviet rock punk” music; from that song, I took the verse that sings “Produce, Consume, Die”, which later became the title of the publication. From there, I researched Pier Paolo Pasolini’s visions and ideas on consumerism and power. I made this connection then onto a monologue by Gian Maria Volonté about exploited workers, strikes and unions in the film “The Working Class Goes to Heaven”, all themes that related to a consumerist society. Wanting to make a comparison with the present to make the publication deal with more contemporary issues and also for a personal motivation that is to explain the damage that today’s social networks in 2022 create on us, supported by studies and statistics. Brief Copy and Paste was the brief for this platform.It is a concept that has been “shared, riffed, culled, reused, recycled, swiped, stolen, quoted, lifted, duplicated, gifted, appropriated, mimicked, pirated, sampled, remixed, cited, for as long as humans have existed”. Divided into five weeks, we dealt with different topics related to the concept of copy &amp; paste. Over a series of workshops, we created our final piece of work and exposed it in an Open-Studio installation. It was an open brief. As if it were a copy and paste. Based on Gian Maria Voltere’s monologue in “La classe operaia va in paradiso”, the film was the winner of the Grand Prix for Best Film at the 1972 Cannes Film Festival. It is about workers who are treated almost like slaves even risking their lives, with unbearable work rhythms, just to be able to earn enough to afford a car and other consumer goods. The following are some of the significant statements taken from Luca Gasparini’s 1990 documentary “Tempi Moderni (nuovi forti interessanti)” (eng: Modern Times). “Values have fallen and they have been replaced by others.” Pasolini in the documentary talks about values, values that the consumerist society successfully imposes. He argues that there’s a depauperation of individuality which is disguised through its valorization. And he hated the power of his day, of his today, he argues that everyone hated it.
